Teachers and Dances at the 2002 Summer School

Paja & Madelon Milić

Paja, born in Yugoslavia, learned folk dance at school.  He liked it so much that after school he went to join a demonstration group.

Madelon was born in Holland.  She studied at ballet academy in Amsterdam and specialised in Yugoslav folk dances.

They met when Paja came to Holland 34 years ago and went on together in dance and marriage, performing and teaching together.  Now they give lessons in Holland, Switzerland, Italy, France, Sweden and Britain.

At the Summer School they will be offering a programme of dances selected from their Yugoslav & Albanian repertoire.

Sibylle Helmer

Sibylle Helmer teaches folk dancing all over Holland.  She also teaches French at secondary school.  Experienced in all kind of dance disciplines, she became a qualified folk dance teacher eleven years ago.  She discovered Breton music in Paris and now goes to Brittany every year to learn Breton dances.

Her course will include circle, couple and set dances, accompanied by singing, from all over Brittany, including the dances of the “Fest-Noz” (Breton evening dance party).  She will show the customs of the Breton people with pictures of the costumes.

After the dance lessons you can join the Breton people at their Fest-Noz!

Maggie O'Regan

Maggie has been folk dancing for the last twenty years and has visited Greece, Romania and Bulgaria several times to study their dances.  As well as the Balkans she has a particular interest in dances from Russia and Armenia.

She has taught at the Eastbourne Folk Festival and workshops for folk dance groups from London to Yorkshire.  She has performed with several Greek groups based in London and currently dances with the Romanian group, Martisorul.

Anne Leach

Anne has been international folk dancing for over twenty years and has developed a particular interest in the couple dances of western and northern Europe.

She teaches at a regular class for newcomers to international folk dancing and has also taught folk dancing in the national curriculum to children at Key Stage 2.  Anne danced for several years with the Syrenka Polish group and now enjoys Scandinavian turning dances with the Scandia group and Irish sets in addition to a general repertoire class.
